Peacemaker kills for “peace”. America legislates for it. And I’m starting to wonder if peace itself has ever been innocent.

They tell us to keep the peace. To breathe through it. To hold our tongues. To believe that stillness is strength.

Embrace a world where peace is weaponized. Where peace means the soft glove that hides the iron fist.

And lately, I can’t stop asking myself: Can justice and peace even serve the same master in a world built on oppression?

The Lie of Keeping the Peace
It’s a question that’s haunted me since watching Peacemaker. Christopher Smith (John Cena), DC’s blood-soaked antihero, claims to fight “for peace.”

He says, “I made a vow of peace with all my heart. I don’t care how many men, women, and children I need to kill to get it.”

That line hit me like a punch. Beneath the comic-book absurdity, there’s a truth about our culture: we have built entire systems around that same contradiction: peace, no matter the cost. Peace, even when it destroys justice.

I used to think they could. I called myself a conscientious objector; a pacifist in spirit if not in name. I thought refusing to fight made me righteous. That peace was proof of moral character.

But peace, as America practices it, has never been holy. It’s always been hierarchical: the quiet demanded by those who benefit most from your silence.
The kind of peace that’s enforced when your truth makes people uncomfortable.

Keeping the peace sounds noble until you realize how often it’s used as a weapon. When people fighting for dignity are told they’re being “divisive,” peace becomes propaganda for the powerful…
